WHAT THE CUSTOMER NEEDED?
Restaurant Rodeo Scandinavia is a newly established restaurant concept in Denmark based on the Brazilian tradition for grilled meat served at the table. On each table of the restaurant the guest has a card with a green and a red side used to communicate to the waiters whether they wish more meet (green side up) or not (red side up).
The cards were initially printed in cardboard with a protective lacquer but after three months’ use they began to wear out along the edges. Also, the cardboard cards could only be wiped clean by hand after use which was a time-consuming – and therefore costly – process to go through every night.
WHICH SOLUTION WAS CHOSEN?
Restaurant Rodeo turned to Mekoprint to find a better solution, namely a card produced in acrylic. The idea came up as an acrylic card would not wear out as did the cardboard cards and could furthermore be washed in the dish washing machine as any other utensil used in the restaurant.
The process of producing the card in acrylic initially involved contact to Mekoprint Graphics’ design and process engineer who suggested a specific acrylic quality and the proper printing process – namely silk-screen printing. In this way, the cards would be both sturdy and dish-washer safe.
WHAT WERE THE BENEFITS?
“The process and cooperation with Mekoprint was smooth and easy. The design and process engineer was excited to assist in finding the right technical solution. Once this was in place, the rest was handled via e-mails to and from Mekoprint’s sales supporter and us.
The new card has a much more exclusive look – matching the standards of the restaurant – and is more hygienic. Also, our waiters save time every night when laying the tables as they do not have to wipe the cards by hand”.
