Mekoprint creates customised membrane keyboards with infinite graphics design possibilities and unique structural advantages. 

In the production of membrane keyboards, only materials tested for chemical resistance are used, thus ensuring durability and easy surface cleaning.

The membrane keyboard's design foil usually undergoes embossing to mark the position of the keys. The design of the keys is essential for ensuring the keyboard's total functionality. We recommend well-known and approved key structures and at the same time we can, to a great extent, help to shape the development of new structures.

Component Integration

With the use of LEDs, Mekoprint integrates these lights in a sandwich construction of the membrane keyboard.

Installation of LEDs takes place efficiently and uniformly on an SMD line in which the diodes are glued tightly using an advanced method developed by Mekoprint.

A large variation of components can be integrated in the membrane keyboards, including SMD-LEDs, print resistors, EMC/ESD shielding, clear and coloured acrylic or glass display windows, heat bonded flex print with electrically live components, EL lamps for background lighting and silicone mats, etc.

FLAT, UNEMBOSSED KEYS

It is often an advantage of flat, unembossed keys for the user to receive feedback when he presses the key, e.g. in the form of an audible signal or a visible response on the display.

Mekoprint also offers flat keys with an underlying metal dome/spring that clicks when pressed.

Flat keys can also be constructed for use as slide potentiometres.

FLAT KEYS WITH EMBOSSED FRAMES

Keys with embossed frames can be constructed with or without tactility.

The frame can be at the key's circumference or can be used for embossing logos, symbols, numbers, etc.

Embossed Braille is also an option.

EMBOSSED KEYS

The keys can be made of poly dome or spring dome.

Choosing between these is dependent on factors such as application, tactility and usage temperature.

Via graphical application of paints and lacquers on the embossing, a visual 3D effect is achieved.

LEDs

TYPES AND RANGES

LEDs of various types and colours. Individual LEDs can use four different colours in the same diode, and other LEDs can vary in terms of colour tones according to the voltage that is applied.

An electrically controlled scale can be integrated directly into the membrane keyboard by installing LEDs in the desired pattern (row, circle, etc.).

The graphical print on the front can indicate the unit of measurement which the scale component is to use.

 

PHOTODIODES AND CONCEALED DIODES

Photodiodes can be directly integrated in the membrane keyboard to, e.g. control background lighting in the keyboard.

LEDs can be concealed in the structure so that they are only visible when illuminated.

This makes the graphical front appear tranquil and without disruptive visible (on the off position) LEDs.

EMBOSSING

Embossing is used to spread and clarify the LED's light on the surface of the front foil.

In membrane keyboards with a lower height than the LED, embossing is used to make room for the LED in the structure.

Embossing of LEDs is usually carried out in the same procedure as embossing the keys and therefore does not mean additional costs.

 

RESISTORS

In structures with limited space or many LEDs, resistors are printed on the LEDs directly on the keyboard. This is both economically and structurally advantageous.

The resistors are screen printed with graphite paste.

BACKGROUND LIGHTING

EL-lamps

Electroluminescent lamps consist of foil with partial, screen printed phosphorus. 

The phosphorus lights up when connected to electricity.

This technology is used, e.g., where complicated geometrical patterns should be visible even in weak lighting, and at the same time the membrane keyboard has a minimal thickness (1-3mm).

LEDs

Using LEDs for background lighting requires a greater height on the keyboard itself than the height required when using EL lamps.

The light from the LEDs must have a certain height in order for the light to be able to spread and have uniform luminous effect. 

In contrast to EL lamps, LEDs do not require high voltage, and their lifetime is typically longer (depending on the operating voltage).

PCB

If the membrane structure allows for this, a transparent glass or acrylic plate can be installed.

In this way, a light from an underlying source can be installed on the controller circuit board and translucent keyboard.

This type of structure often requires a cabinet height of over 3 cm, and therefore this technology will not be usable with all types of membrane keyboards.

One of the advantages of this solution is that the choice of lighting source is not limited to the LED light types that can be integrated directly into the membrane keyboard.
